GlobalProtect for MacOS

This article will guide you through setting up our GlobalProtect VPN on MacOS on a personal device.


Supported Versions

The following versions of OSX and above are supported by the latest version of Global Protect.

  • Catalina 10.15

  • Big Sur 11.0

  • Monterey 12.0

  • Ventura 13.0

  • Sonoma 14.0

Instructions

Personal Devices

  1. Navigate to byodportal.essex.ac.uk

    1. You may be asked to sign into your University IT Account

  2. Download and Install GlobalProtect Agent

    1. Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect Agent

  1. Double click the file that downloads to run the installer

  1. Follow the on-screen steps and “allow” GlobalProtect by unlocking the padlock and clicking Allow

  1. Once allowed, under the “Security & Privacy” section click the Privacy Tab

  2. Click Close on the GlobalProtect Installer

  1. Click on the Full Disk Access and Plus Symbol +

  2. In the “Applications Folder”, select GlobalProtect

  3. Close “Security & Privacy” window

  4. Once installed, open GlobalProtect

  1. Open the GlobalProtect App

  2. Enter byodportal.essex.ac.uk under Portal

  3. Click Connect

  4. You may then be asked to sign in with your University IT Account


Troubleshooting

Should you experience issues with GlobalProtect running on your device, we recommend checking the following:

  • Restart your device after installation

  • Click the three-lines menu option and Refresh Connection

  • Close your default browser and try to connect again

    • Especially if experiencing authentication issues

  • Check to see if you have other VPN connection services running and turn them off

  • Check if you have anti-virus blocking GlobalProtect and add an exception

  • Reinstall GlobalProtect

    • Especially if you are experiencing issues with updates.
