GlobalProtect VPN for Windows
This article will guide you through setting up our GlobalProtect VPN on Windows, including personal and University devices.
Instructions
Personal Devices
Navigate to byodportal.essex.ac.uk
You may be asked to sign into your University IT Account
Download and Install GlobalProtect Agent
Ensure you select the 64-bit version
Once installed, open GlobalProtect
Enter byodportal.essex.ac.uk under Portal
Click Connect
You may then be asked to sign in with your University IT Account
University Devices
Navigate to the Software Hub
Sign in with your University username and password
Username example: jb2000
If this is your first time using the Software Hub, follow the steps on-screen.
Use the search box at the top of the page and search for GlobalProtect VPN
Click or Hover over GlobalProtect VPN
Click Install to begin installation
Once installed, open GlobalProtect VPN from your start menu
you can quickly open GlobalProtect from the GlobalProtect icon in your notification area at the bottom-right of the screen.
Check that Portal is set to byodportal.essex.ac.uk and then click Connect
You may then be asked to sign in with your University IT Account
Troubleshooting
Should you experience issues with GlobalProtect running on your device, we recommend checking the following:
Restart your device after installation
Click the three-lines menu option and Refresh Connection
Close your default browser and try to connect again
Especially if experiencing authentication issues
Check to see if you have other VPN connection services running and turn them off
Check if you have anti-virus blocking GlobalProtect and add an exception
Reinstall GlobalProtect
Especially if you are experiencing issues with updates.
