Retrieve your passphrase
What is a Passphrase?
Your passphrase is an extra layer of security for your account and is usually set up during registration. This is often required for some security checks such the Get Account process.
This is not the same as your IT Account password.
Retrieve Your Passphrase
You can retrieve your passphrase by visiting the below link and using your external email address registered with the University, alongside the answer to your security question.
Instructions
Navigate to Retrieve Passphrase
Scroll to the bottom of the page
Retrieve forgotten passphrase section
Enter your external email address
Select the empty text box field below for Security Question
This should then display your security question.
Enter the answer to your security question
Select Retrieve Passphrase
You should now receive an email to both your Essex and external email addresses with your passphrase.
Troubleshooting
External Email Address Issues?
If you’re aren’t receiving the passphrase retrieval email, it may be that you are using a different external email address to the one registered with the University or you need to check your junk mail.
Security Questions
If you don’t know your security question answer or it’s not accepting it, try to avoid short-hand names in case you typed the full name and vice versa.
