Email Quarantine
This article will show you how to use the University’s email quarantine service (Barracuda Networks).
Sign in
Sign in to your own mailbox:
Enter your Essex email address
e.g. jb12345@essex.ac.uk
Select Continue
Enter your University password
Select Continue
Sign in to a shared mailbox:
Enter the shared email address
e.g. sharedmailbox@essex.ac.uk
Select Continue
Choose the option Email a temporary passcode for you to log in with
Check your shared mailbox for an email containing a temporary passcode
Enter the temporary passcode and then select Continue
View Quarantined Emails
To view your quarantined email, choose Quarantined from the Message Filter and choose a Date Preset.
Release a Quarantined Email
To release a quarantined email, select the email using the radio button(s) and select the Deliver button.
Please be vigilant when releasing emails from quarantine, ensuring you follow our cyber-security guidelines.
The email should appear in your Outlook Inbox within a few minutes. If the email does not appear in your inbox, please check your Junk-Email folder in Outlook, as released email can sometime end up there.
Message Log & Filters
The Message Log displays inbound email traffic that passes through the Barracuda email security service for your account. The Message Log shows email from the last 30 days.
Quarantined Email Alerts
When emails have been quarantined in your mailbox, you may receive email alerts similar to the one shown below. These legitimate and intended to inform you of emails that may need your attention.
Please do not share notification emails or the links contained in them with others. This is because the links contained in the notification email automatically log you into your email quarantine when clicked.
You can also change the frequency of these alerts by following the instructions linked below.
