This guide will show you how to apply to use our High Performance Computing service.

Step 1 - Apply for access

Please email snewman@essex.ac.uk with the following information:

  • Your full name

  • Your department

  • Your Essex email address

  • Your Essex username

  • If you're registering for a research collaborator, please also provide their name, email address and department/company.

Step 2 - Connect to the VPN service

Once you've been given access, you will need to connect to the University's VPN service to be able to access the HPC website, http://hpc.essex.ac.uk. This website contains all the information you need to get started.

Step 3 - Set up multifactor authentication (MFA)

The HPC service requires multifactor authentication (MFA) to log in. You will be asked to set up MFA for the HPC cluster the first time you log in. Please note this is in addition to the MFA you may already have set up for the University’s Office 365 services.
