Access a shared network drive

This article will show you how to access a network drive.

Before you start

To connect to a shared network drive you must:

  1. have permission to access the drive

  2. be connected to the University’s wired network or VPN if working remotely

You may already have permission to access the drive because of your role at the University.

If not, you'll need to speak to a delegated group owner who can give you permission. Speak with the IT Helpdesk if you don't know who the delegated group owner is.

Connect to a network drive on Windows

  1. Follow Microsoft's instructions on how to map a network drive

  2. At step 4, in the Folder box enter the path to the network drive using the format \\server\folder, for example \\sernt2\sociology

  3. Choose Finish.

  4. Go to This PC on your computer. The drive should appear under Network locations.
