What is an External Email Address?

Your external email address is the personal email address you used when you registered for the University. This is often the go-to for regaining access back into your IT Account in the event that you lose access.


Instructions

Should you change your email address and need to update your external email address, you can do so using the below steps.

You will need to know your username and password to update your details.

  1. Navigate to Change Your Email Address

  2. Under the “Register an external email address…” section, enter your Essex Username & Password

  3. Select Login with Username and Password

You should now see the option to select Show to view your details.

  1. To edit your details, select Edit

  1. Enter the details you wish to change

You do not need to change all your details, only the ones you wish to update.

  1. Once your information has been entered, select Apply Changes
